What is a resume:

A resume is a sheet of paper that contains a list of your achievements and former employment that is usually used for job applications.

What to include in your resume:

Your resume should include your contact information, including personal details and what job you are searching for and how you qualify for said employment. To further elaborate it should also include your past employment history, your educational history, demonstrated skills relevant to your job, special achievements, and references.

Employment and educational history are included to present to the employer what you have done in the past. This is to show the employer what previous experience you have with the career you are currently applying for.
Demonstrated skills are also shown in a resume to show your apparent skills that are relevant to the job you are applying for. An example would be to not go into an office applying for a job as a secretary and then bragging about how you can cook. Don’t do this as it will just confuse your employer and make it even less likely that you would even get a job.
Special achievements are included in a resume to show that you have achieved something in that field that would help you with the job. The achievement has to be relevant in some way. Applying for a job as a secretary and then bragging about how you have a trophy in boxing will not do anything to increase your chances of being employed.
References are included in a resume to show that you are not lying. You could type up a monster of a resume saying you have done great jobs and gone to the moon and back bit it all goes for show if you have no references.

Cover Letters
The cover letter is the first of many steps, before your job application can be complete. You must learn to crawl before you learn to walk. Writing a cover letter may not be the easiest part of the whole job application part but it's far from the hardest part.

Before writing a cover letter here are some very
easy to follow steps
of what a cover letter is all about. First know your strengths and weaknesses. Secondly recognize your skills and experiences. A cover letter is their to give information about you and why and how you qualify for the job your applying for.

Cover letters not only personalize your resume but also you to emphasize and expand on the proper skills and qualifications that you have that would be relevant for this job.

A cover letter must always answer the simple question: why should I hire you?

Your cover letter should always explain why you are sending your resume.

There are some tips that you can use before sending in your letter: 1- Do not use contractions 2- Keep your letter short and sweet
3- check your grammar and punctuation 4- use good quality paper 5- Have a career specialist check over your letter and lastly be sure to sign your cover letter.

The Interview Process: Interrogation

Before you are asked to be interviewed, you must first send in your job application to the company of your choice. Once the company reads your resume, if they are interested in hiring you, you must first receive a phone interview.

Phone Interview
The company feels the need to call you to see if your strengths match their needs. If you do, then they will schedule to meet with you in person.

In-Person Interview
The first step to the in-person interview is to meet with someone from Human Resources. The second part is a technical interview where you usually meet up with someone that you might be working with.

Preparing for the Interview
Remember that the key to a successful interview is to have knowledge, skills and abilities for what you are applying for. Before you actually give in your application, make sure that you have the
minimum education or experience required.

How to act during an interview

Your appearance and behaviour has a very big impact on what your interview looks at. The first thing that they do before even saying hello is; they look at you to see if your dressed the for the part. For instance, let’s say you have a job interview at a school. You should be dressed professionally, not in a t-shirt nor jogging pants. They will think that you aren’t qualified for the job if you dress so. Try to be punctual and be at least 10 minutes early to show them that you are interested in the job and care about the interview.

Secondly, they will pay attention to your facial expressions and how you are seated and what gestures you do. One of the first things that they notice is your handshake. If it’s firm and proper, they’ll get a positive idea of you. If it’s loose and your hand is shaking
Nervously they probably won’t get the greatest idea of you. If you think you messed up
on your handshake there’s still plenty of time to change their decision.

You should answer the questions with a sturdy tone and make them believe you are confident in what you’re saying. A few things you should definitely not do is move around to much. Sit firmly on your chair and sit up straight. Avoid twitching that will only prove to them that you’re nervous and that not the best way to get the job. Try to show your personality as much as possible. (They want to see what’s unique about you.)
When they ask you to leave, even if you think you didn’t get the job be courteous. Shake hands and say Goodbye politely (keep a positive attitude!)

The Beginning of the Interview: How to start it successfully

Try to make small talk instead of jumping right to the interview. Ask a question regarding their hobbies, the weather, or why they chose their career, etc.

Some questions will be asked to learn about your work history. These questions might sound like the following:
-Tell me more about the duties/ responsibilities of your past job.
-What did you do most of the time and how long did it take you do it?
-What did you enjoy doing in your previous job?
-There are many reasons for why someone might leave a job. Why did you quit your job?

Some questions may also be asked to find out exactly why you would be suitable for the job, like:
-Why did you apply for this particular position?
-How and why do you feel you are qualified for this job?
-What is important for you in a job and why would those factors be important?
